It's time to put your tennis shoes on, and do some serious Treasure Hunting! For those of you who love a "Bargain," garage and yard sales can be a fun adventure, and you will be amazed at the fabulous treasures available at deep discounted prices.

There is nothing like buying an item at a yard sale for $5.00, and then selling it on eBay for $50.00. Yippee! There are plenty of stories of people who have purchased an item at a garage sale for under $10.00 and made a small fortune selling it on eBay.

Depending on where you reside, typically garage and yard sales begin around April/May and end sometime in October. The minute that first tiny flower pushes through the dirt, you can bet that bargain hungry buyers are ready to shop.

Garage and yard sale shopping is not for everyone, but if you are up for the adventure, a little planning never hurts. Here are a few "Auction Mommies" tips for Garage and Yard Sale Hunting:

- Check listings in advance.
Your local newspaper is the best source for upcoming yard sales, garage sales, moving sales, rummage sales, or church sales. Some Cable Television Companies have a channel dedicated to Yard and Garage Sale Ads. Check with your local provider.

-Remember, "The early bird catches the worm!"
Start as early as possible in the morning to find the best items. -Wear comfortable clothes and shoes...your feet will Thank You!

-Target the yard sales.
For example, if you are looking for trendy kid's clothes, toys, or accessories...visit the newer developments, and neighborhood yard sales. If you are looking for Vintage antiques, jewelry, or items from the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, etc., then visit the more affluent, older neighborhood yard sales.

-Bring a cell phone, pen, notepad, map, plastic bags, etc.

-Bring a wagon, stroller, or fold out cart to wheel your purchases to your car.

-Bring some food, snacks, and drinks for energy.

-Check out all items completely before you decide to make a purchase.

-Bargain and negotiate the price. Ask questions, and get the best deal possible.

-Avoid mentioning eBay while bargain-shopping, and always be courteous to the seller.

Going to a yard sale or garage sale with a partner will not only make things easier....it's a lot of Fun! Work together to scout out the area, discuss strategies, and attack those sales. Another way to buddy up is by communicating with a cell phone. One partner goes to the yard sale, and scouts out the merchandise, then contacts the other partner, who does the eBay searches on the computer at home to see which items are potentially profitable, and which items are not.

Not everyone has the luxury of going to a garage or yard sale to quietly browse and shop for potential eBay items. Many of us will have to bring our kids along. Prepare yourself and the kids in advance for an early morning start. If your children are young, make sure to bring their toys, books, plenty of snacks, drinks, lunch, diapers, wet-wipes, etc. for the car ride. Excite your children by telling them that they are going on a "Treasure Hunt Adventure," and promise to let them buy a special toy. Offer older children a couple of dollars to find a yard sale treasure for themselves, and a promise to their favorite fast-food restaurant, usually puts a smile on their face as well. Being prepared...can make yard and garage sale trips a fun family affair.

Garage and Yard Sales are a great way to meet some nice people, have fun, and find some great items to list on eBay for a tidy profit. Enjoy your Treasure Hunts and Happy eBaying!
